REASON: BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING PREGNANT

Facts about Teen Pregnancy

When thinking about the consequences of sexual activity, pregnancy is often listed among the primary considerations, and for good reason. Although teen pregnancy rates have been declining in recent years, the United States still has rates that are among the highest in the industrialized world.

Did you know:

  • Approximately 2,500 teenage girls get pregnant each day in America.

  • 1 in 5 sexually active teen girls become pregnant.

  • 50% of teens who become pregnant don't graduate from high school as a teen

  • Although most teens surveyed desire to marry, most teen mothers do not marry their child's father. Additionally, research shows that most teen mothers are still unmarried 10 years after the birth of their child.

  • Having children outside of a marriage relationship is the single greatest contributor to child poverty. On average, a child raised by a never-married mother is nine times more likely to live in poverty than a child born and raised by two parents in an intact marriage.

  • Of course a teen mother is able to finish school, to go to college, to get married, and to accomplish many of her future goals and dreams, but unmarried teenage pregnancy can make it much more difficult to do so.

  • 88% of teens surveyed that they are determined not to get pregnant or to get someone pregnant as a teen.
