Starting Over

If you've already been sexually active, it is never too late to make a
different choice. Those who have decided to choose abstinence after being sexually active list the following as tips for those who want to choose abstinence:

  • Make a commitment to start over. List the reasons you are choosing to
change and be willing to stick to your decision.

  • Find out who your supporters are. Once you have made the decision, share your commitment with friends and family who will support you and not pressure you.

  • Communicate. Tell the people you date about your commitment and how you plan to stick to it. Make a decision to only date those who will respect
    your decision to wait.

  • Set boundaries. Set limits on your behavior and communicate those limits so you don't go too far physically.

  • Focus on your future. When abstinence gets difficult, remember your future goals and the reasons you have chosen to start over. You are worth the wait!
